Balanced Price Range (BPR) – The Equilibrium Zone

Definition of Balanced Price Range (BPR)

Balanced Price Range (BPR) is a price zone where the market has experienced a balance between supply and demand, often appearing after a strong move. In SMC, BPR is considered a strong confluence zone where price may react or reverse.

How to Identify BPR

  • BPR often forms after a strong rally/drop, when price moves sideways in a narrow range.
  • This zone consists of multiple candles with small bodies and long wicks, indicating market indecision.
  • It can be identified through patterns like Inside Bar, Doji, Pin Bar.

Example: After a strong rally, price forms an Inside Bar with a small body contained within the previous candle's range. [diagram:fvg-bullish]

How to Trade BPR

1. Reversal Trade at BPR

  • When price touches BPR and shows a reversal signal (e.g., Pin Bar, Engulfing), enter in the opposite direction.
  • Place stop loss above/below BPR.

2. Breakout Trade from BPR

  • When price breaks out of BPR with a strong candle (Marubozu), enter in the breakout direction.
  • Target liquidity zones or extended price levels.

Real Example

On EUR/USD H1, after a sharp drop, price formed BPR for 3 hours. A Bullish Engulfing candle appeared at BPR, signaling a bullish reversal.

Common Mistakes

  • Confusing BPR with regular accumulation zones.
  • Not waiting for confirmation before entering.
  • Placing stop loss too close to BPR, getting stopped out easily.
