Introduction
Multiple Timeframe Analysis (MTA) combined with Price Action is an advanced trading method that helps traders identify the main trend on Higher Timeframe (HTF), find optimal entry points on Lower Timeframe (LTF) based on candlestick patterns and market structure.
Definition
- Higher Timeframe (HTF): Larger timeframes (H4, D1, W1) used to determine the main trend, key supply/demand zones.
- Middle Timeframe (MTF): Intermediate timeframes (H1, H2) to confirm trend and find potential price zones.
- Lower Timeframe (LTF): Smaller timeframes (M15, M5) for precise entry signals.
How to Identify
- Identify HTF trend: Use D1 or H4 to determine uptrend/downtrend. Look for supply/demand zones, Order Blocks (OB), or Break of Structure (BOS).
- Wait for pullback to key zone: On HTF, identify potential price zones (support/resistance, OB, FVG).
- Drop to LTF: When price reaches that zone, switch to M15/M5 to find Price Action signals like pin bar, engulfing, inside bar, or reversal patterns.
Example: If HTF (D1) is in an uptrend and price pulls back to a bullish OB zone, on LTF (M15) a Bullish Engulfing pattern appears, that's a buy signal.

How to Trade
Scenario 1: Trend Following
- HTF: Uptrend (bullish BOS, HH/HL structure).
- MTF: Price pulls back to bullish OB or FVG.
- LTF: Buy signal (Bullish Engulfing, Bullish Pin Bar, Inside Bar Breakout up).
- Entry: Buy at breakout of signal candle or limit at OB zone.
- Stop Loss: Below nearest LTF low or below OB zone.
- Take Profit: Target 1: previous HTF high; target 2: next supply zone.
Scenario 2: Reversal Trading
- HTF: Downtrend (bearish CHoCH, LL/LH structure).
- MTF: Price hits strong supply zone or bearish OB.
- LTF: Bullish reversal signal (Morning Star, Bullish Pin Bar, Tweezer Bottom).
- Entry: Buy at breakout or limit.
- Stop Loss: Below signal low.
- Take Profit: Target 1: previous high; target 2: demand zone.
Real Example
Suppose on D1 (HTF), EUR/USD is in an uptrend with higher highs and higher lows. Price pulls back to a bullish OB zone around 1.1000. Dropping to M15, a Bullish Engulfing pattern appears right at the OB. This is a strong buy signal. Enter Buy at breakout of engulfing candle, SL below its low, TP at previous high.
Common Mistakes
- Timeframe mismatch: Using HTF and LTF too far apart (e.g., W1 and M1) causing noise.
- Ignoring HTF structure: Trading against the main trend based only on LTF signals.
- Early entry: Not waiting for LTF confirmation, entering before clear signal.
- Poor risk management: Stop loss too tight (easily hit) or too wide (low risk:reward).

Conclusion
Combining MTA with Price Action gives traders a comprehensive view, increasing win rate. Always start from HTF to determine trend, then drop to LTF for precise entry.
