Definition of Break of Structure (BOS)
Break of Structure (BOS) is a price signal where the asset breaks a significant previous high or low, indicating strong trend continuation or reversal. In an uptrend, a break above a swing high is a bullish BOS; in a downtrend, a break below a swing low is a bearish BOS. BOS is often accompanied by high volume and long-bodied candles.
How to Identify BOS
Example of bullish BOS in an uptrend: price breaks above the previous high, often with a strong bullish candle.
Example of bearish BOS in a downtrend: price breaks below the previous low, often with a large bearish candle.
How to Trade BOS
Real Example
EUR/USD on H4: price made a low at 1.0800, then a high at 1.0900. It dipped to 1.0850 and then broke above 1.0900. That is a bullish BOS. You could buy with stop below 1.0800, target 1.1000.
